Just got back from my first hunting trip.

We got one moose (not my kill).

On the way back home I started thinking about the experience, insights that emerged, and how the world might be different if more people hunted.

Nature is truth.

Having an unmediated relationship with truth is both powerful and beautiful.

It’s raw, pure reality, and you're forced to contend with it as it is.

As is always the case with truth, it changes you, you don’t change it.
So much of daily life is unnecessary noise.

Modern culture often hijacks our attention & focus for someone else's ends.

Hunting conveys a singularity of focus, contending only w/ those conditions that stand b/w you & the completion of the task.

It’s a pristine state of mind
We are so soft.

We’ve become so insulated from the harsh realities of existence, and cut-off from the wisdom to be gained from developing what is needed to overcome them.
Male & Female are the two fundamental forces of creation.

The differences b/w them r obvious in nature.

They balance one another, & lead to the most sacred of events, creation.

They're two sides of the same coin.

We should honour the differences, not seek to eliminate them.
Stoicism in men is underappreciated.

Stoic men defer their feelings, & endure great suffering, in service of that which must be done.

This is honourable, & should be celebrated.

Playfulness & comedy are coping mechanisms for dealing w/ hardship, they shouldn't be condemned.
Culture is a facade.

We’ve convinced ourselves that it's ‘reality’.

It’s not.

It’s just the most popular story at any given time.

Stories can be useful, but dangerous too.

We should make sure they are anchored in, and convey, truth.
The best way to teach, is to lead by example.

Let the wisdom of your action be revealed in how it moves you successfully through your environment, to your desired end.
Tradition is important, and we should use it more intentionally.

It provides a controlled context for accumulated wisdom to be passed down.

It should not be carelessly dismissed.
Don’t waste time.

If something is to be done, identify it clearly, and act toward its completion with haste.
Kill your own food (or be present).

Seeing how the animal lives, & how it dies, is a potent & potentially transformative experience.

I took some time to express my gratitude, & commit to honouring its sacrifice by striving to be someone worthy of it - someone honest and good.
Kindness, generosity, genuineness and mutual respect quickly create strong bonds.

This is a good reason to extend and express them more often.
Old man strength is real.
