As dangerous and destructive as those attitudes are, the most disgusting part is how performative it is. Trump does not, of course, avoid care for himself - neither do his colleagues. But they will convince 40% of the nation that to do so is noble, just as they have always done.
Red states that have long suffered subpar health care, education, employment resources, infant mortality, poverty solutions and life expectancy will continue to vote for their own demise and the nature of a virus means they will bring the rest of us with them.
