This Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month, Latinx employees of Walt Disney Animation Studios are sharing their stories here. Meet Erika Becerra, Artistic Recruiter:
"Faith, courage, and tenacity were inherited from my Salvadoran parents, modeled by my older sister and revamped by my younger brother.
I am proud to be part of the Hispanic/Latinx community & acknowledge the sacrifices made by those before me, celebrate the unique traditions, & embrace the foundation that has shaped me. Today, I get to share my Salvadoran heritage and my husband's Mexican heritage with our son.
I was raised in Compton, Calif. Growing up, my parents knew their kids had to go to college. I never dreamed of going away for school, but it was the traits they passed on to me that led me to attend the University of Wisconsin, Madison on a full-tuition scholarship.
I also didn’t think it was possible to work for a company that I admired & loved so deeply, and today, here I am as an Artistic Recruiter. In my day-to-day, as I review reels and portfolios, I like to jam out to some of my favorite artists like Reik, Maluma, and Christian Nodal.
Growing up my mom would say, "hablas hasta por los codos" which means "I talked way too much." That extroverted and curious personality has paid off, because my job is all about getting to know people's stories and helping them get closer to their professional dreams.
My advice is to be proud of what makes you authentic - your roots, quirkiness, flare. Know your value. Just like you are craving to be part of inspiring organizations, they too are craving to be inspired by authentic people." - Erika Becerra, Artistic Recruiter
