in other words, black male studies often explicitly or implicitly suggests that the precise violence in store for "black masculinity" effectively neuters that existence's potential for masculine, cissexist violence; to believe this to be true is to ignore...
the multiplicity of conceptual and empirical evidence to the contrary
that this conceptual move works by twisting FWQ theorists' insights on the multiplicity of oppression against those theorists' literal material lives is...hauntingly disturbing
LASTLY: the elephant in the room...black male studies is deeply entwined with biological determinism gussied up as social construction rooted in sexist, queerphobic, and transphobic presumptions
now again, any black male studies person would likely shout me down for suggesting that talking about black men and the unique violences done against them is inherently gender violence; that is not what i'm saying
i'm saying that as a matter of practice black male studes completely refuses to deconstruct masculinity (and gender, broadly) both as a material category and as a conceptual-existential desiderata (thing-to-be-desired-or-existentially-attached-to)
to the first point, black male studies frequently refuses to consider that the things it thinks define black masculinity are not felt, in similar or distinct ways, by a multiplicity of identities
where is the analysis of intersex black folks? where is the analysis of trans folks of all genders? where is the analysis of black queer men? these identity locations, in all their deconstructionist and fragmenting potential, are ignored for a secure, stable "man" concept
this, notwithstanding the...let's say, odd use of homosexuality as an analytic for describing antiblack malefocused violence (a la white men violating black men) without a subsuquent acknowledgement, or even with a tacit assumption, that no other possibility of queerness exists
but finally, and i'm getting tired so i'm gonna wrap this up, black male studies often remains SOLELY focused on a modality of "emasculation" to describe antiblack malefocused violence
maleness is still tacitly acknowledged as something desirable, equated with autonomy, freedom, etc. the only possibility of violence centered on the black male body is one that disallows it that maleness
and thus, furthering the hermeneutical bad faith of this discipline, the vast expanse work done deconstructing masculinity is totally disregarded by a field with "male" in its name...the audacity!
that's that, i'm done. i sure hope i don't get flamed for this! cancel me
