what if were actually taught in school how to study instead of what to study
elementary school: we learn life basics like how to read & write, basic maths (all simple calculations) and an intro to sciences (a basic explanation of the human body, the ecosystem, heat and electric conductivity, idk like just basics to survive a normal day)
also it's important not to depend on theortical learning in elemantary school, kids would want to experince some stuff and see in resl life so the topics must be engaging and relatable
middle school: that's a very important phase
we mostly start to make decisions for ourselves by trial and error & start to develop curiosity towards the world around us.
we do stupid shit, because we are interested to try & that sense of trying is developed
however-
those feelings are wrongly dealt with in traditional education systems
that sense of curiosity and wanting to try shouldn't be faced with having to memorize tons of complex theories when we really want to know more about the real world and try it out. Not textbooks having other people's end results due to their personal experiences-
and i know someone might come and say "we must learn about others experiences to develop our own without repeating their mistakes" well spoilers alert, we don't have this mentality when we are in middle school
anyways back to the point
also in this phase, we are hit by the fact that we need to seriously prepare for the next phase..highschool (which is the most important according to society) when in reality we still don't even know wth is learning & why is it a part of my existence.
I needed to know important things first! like learning methods that suit me, what my interests are so i can accordingly choose what subjects to study in highschool, what kind of extracurricular activity would be interesting to try, why do we go to uni,how to plan my study journey
there are even more important questions that needed answers! (that to this day i'm still wondering about most of them)
i needed to know how do i study? how do i manage my time and stop procrastinating? how to set short term goals and work on them? what are my interests in this life? what makes my eyes sparkle when i learn about? what makes my heart flutter when i get to do? and most importantly-
what are the values that i stand by?
now after elabortaing about things we should've learnt before going to highschool
i have a serious question here
what are the benefits of traditional middleschool education? because i can't find any, when i went to highschool i learned most theories from scratch nothing was useful from middleschool i forgot everything i only remebered the stress & the stupid decisions i made.
time to explain my theory on what to learn in highschool: firstly corona has taught us that online education is a thing and that most courses can be taught online and sometimes even by offline means(prerecorded vids) and then once a week having an online office hours meeting, so-
why not teach us how to study and use those online means during middle school as explained before, and then in highschool all of the material is available and i have a vision of what i want to continue studying so now i choose my courses and get to-
learn by myself because i already know how (thanks to middle school) and i can learn ANYTHING i want to, i have a vision about my future, i know how to search for an answer for any question that comes to my mind, i focus on my interests and even develop new interests
to summarize this thread
elementary school: basics to survive life
middle school: how to educate myself (aka how to self learn)+ how to learn about myself and what suits me
highschool: self learn all subjects + work on areas of interest and no need for normal traditional school
give me the way to learn and find answers. teach me how do i learn not what to learn
as for a student's social life, they'll def meet people when they try extra curriculars &when they get to put themselves out to learn about something, not all education is in textbooks so when getting to know their areas of interest &working on them they'll meet like-minded people
