I am absolutely baffled and increasingly angry at people seeing shops, restaurants and schools being fully reopened one after the other, guidelines being loosened, unemployment being tapered off and withdrawn and then blaming rising cases on individual bad behaviour.
Yeah that GAA club having a party is what is causing this and not the fact that all the precautions are being lifted and a million children have been sent back to school together.
We have no vaccine or much in the way of tools for fighting the virus beyond what we had last year but Rugged Individualism means all we have to do is find the right people to sneer at and we can go back to "normal" without the virus exploding in numbers again.
There little actual thought involved in this kind of thinking. There is no attempt here to actually create a concrete plan to reduce numbers or keep people safe. Finding the most satisfying target for blame is the sole goal.
Though I do understand the allure of this sort of thinking. I wish I could hit people with a big stick with "THINK SYSTEMATICALLY" written on it and it would somehow make people come around. I am in a way engaging in the same sort of complaining.
This sort of thinking is very ingrained and it's silly to get angry at people for engaging in it, as the cause of it is itself systemic. I'm falling victim to the same patterns. But that doesn't stop it being frustrating.
Anyway I'm extremely tired and not sure that was coherent. Might just delete this thread in the morning when I reread it with fresh eyes. Goodnight.
