As an assessment, my child was recorded online reading a P&F level D book. She nailed it — or so it seemed. (thread)
While she was reading, I jotted down the harder words (see pic) and tested her right after with them.
Boxed = incorrect; underlined = borderline (e.g., “vurry”). And the rest were correct.
But she had read all of these correctly just seconds earlier when she had pictures and context.
It’s so easy to be fooled when “reading” leveled books. Even my kid thought she was reading the words and not using the predictive story elements. #purplechallenge #guessingfrompictures #balancedilliteracy
