my thoughts so far on hueningkai’s character in the +U

a thread;
tw // blood

let’s start at the beginning: nap of a star. yeonjun has just snapped a horn off his head and there’s blood on his hands. he’s on his knees, in pain, with half a horn in his hand. and then an angel figure appears, a saviour with mechanical angel wings.
the angel holds out a hand to yeonjun, and yeonjun takes it. more boys, one with spikes on his shoulders, one with a black starry eye, and one with large pointed ears appear around the boy. a circle of 4 boys with similar problems - they’ve woken up with mystical things on
their bodies - and one angel. it seems almost as if the angel brought them together, let the 5 of them see that they’re not alone. the boy seems infact perfect, an angel sent to help them. almost too perfect? you might almost think that they imagined him. he’s an angel
shown up just at the right time. maybe this is why his wings are mechanical. they’re not real wings, he’s a fictional angel so his wings are not real. he does not have emotions, he is a figment of imaginations. however he starts to develop feelings and become almost.. real.
in eternally, you see a child hueningkai run past soobin in the warped version of soobin’s past. the young hueningkai drops a vanilla ice cream as he passes and looks backs and stares soobin straight in the eye before running off, into the dark. vanilla ice cream can be known
to symbolise purity and innocence, so is this a warning to soobin that hueningkai has finally dropped the innocence? the artificial angel has realised that they’re lying to him, hiding things from him to preserve his purity, so he’s dropping the innocence, finally seeing the
world through his own eyes? is this why soobin starts crying? in the vr photoshoot, he has feathers in his hair and is wearing white fluffy clothes, the sort of thing an angel would wear. in one of the photos he’s sat in front of a door on the steps of a house.
it’s clearly an identical remaking of the cysm photo, except his clothes are cleaner and the mood is more lighthearted and the sky is bright and he’s smiling. the house is made of lego. does this mean it’s not real? it’s a recreation of the house the boys burnt down in cysm, a
remake, exactly what the boys wish the house looked like - rather than ashes after they’d burnt it to the ground. it’s not real but it’s what they wished, a warped version of reality. this is why the house is a childish remake of it. however, if you look closely, the hems of
hueningkai’s white trousers were torn and burnt. this shows that they can’t escape their fate and the cold light of reality. or maybe, the burnt trousers and torn knees mean that his purity and innocence is fraying and his tolerance for the members is thinning?
he has a constant association with doors; in cysm and the vr photos he’s sat in front of the same door. in run away (japanese) he’s the last member to walk through a door.. in the iconic “domanggalkka”, he walks backwarss - to a door. (pics shown below)
in run away (japanese) he’s shown as the only member who actually gets to leave the game world, and in the last clip he’s seen eyeing up a game with them in and then walking out of the store holding the very same game cassette (i think it was a cassette). his facial expression is
one of satisfaction. maybe he trapped them in the game world? he seems to be getting less and less innocent and pure. maybe he’s getting revenge for the other members lying to him, hiding things from him? their very own creation turning against them. in eternally his animated
form, unlike the other members, is not identical to his character in nap of a star - his wings are different. they are real wings, not mechanical, but they’re black, almost like devil wings. this would suggest that he’s turned bad, done evil things. i think that he will
turn against the other members at some point, turn them against each other and burn their friendship. he’s becoming his own angel, and becoming a demon in the process. he’s no longer the innocent creation that went with everything that his creators say. in eternally,
he can be seen walking up a set of white stairs up to a white door - again with the pure white, again with doors. he opens the doors into a sky-filled area where everything’s bright and the floor’s almost water. nothings quite right, almost like a dream of what could be.
he sees the other members open a set of doors opposite but far away from him. he’s dreaming, it isn’t real, it can’t be, it’s a twisted place but it looks pretty, almost heavenly. he knows that it’s an illusion, that it’s what he wants - the other members, all waiting for him,
all loving him and friends with him. he wants to believe it so he starts walking across to them. this shows that, because none of it is real, maybe something bad has happened to the other members too, maybe that’s why he’s imagining them and he’s not really there.
he’s lonely and wants to be with them but he can’t get to them, and he knows they’re not good and they’re hiding things from him but being an angel is a lonely life and he doesn’t want to be alone anymore.
anyway, i don’t think there’s anything left to add particularly but i will add stuff if i remember anything. to summarise, he’s a fictional angel created by the other members for support but he’s turning against them and he’s their demise.
i’d just like to say that this is just my ideas (and some of @centerhyuka’s and @txtcharms’s too) so don’t take my word for it! i hope this thread gave you a fresh perspective! as i said i will add anything if i remember anything more! have a nice day :)
