Neither you nor I nor Leo Varadkar nor anyone else needs to agree with what Dr Tony Holohan recommended yesterday. He wrote a letter based upon the evidence he has and his interpretation of it. I’m not sure ‘he didn’t think it through’ is appropriate or even fair to him.

Jim O’Callaghan is now accusing NPHET of not taking other conditions like heart disease, cancer and mental health issues into account. That’s bull. They are absolutely focused on health. And ensuring there are beds for everyone who needs them, including the aforementioned issues.

Don’t be so naive to think that someone on NPHET leaked that letter. That’s a political move. Somebody flew the kite, like the way a footballer in all ireland throws a few blades of grass to gauge the wind, to see the reaction.
