WHY DUNE MOVING TO OCTOBER 2021 IS A GOOD THING

1. BOX OFFICE & OSCAR POTENTIAL

As I described in my last thread, of the vaccine gets its FDA approval in November, the vast majority of the population won’t have taken it till likely the summer of 2021. And what with theatres starting to close down again, 2020 would never work.

Neither would early 2021. In fact the best time for box office in 2021 would in fact by late in the year around fall. Meaning Dune has the best box office potential there. As @JohnnySobczak pointed out, October is where Joker made $1B. Not to mention Dune has no competition.

As it is coming out in October, it won’t compete with the summer or holiday seasons and September has no slated big releases yet. And The Batman is more then likely gonna move since they are on the same day. Studies don’t like to compete with themselves. It will move.

It is also a perfect window for Oscar potential, given that Joker got 11 noms and released that first week of October. Meaning they can still make their Oscar push no problem.

2. PREMIERE AND PROMO TOUR

By releasing at a safe time, it means Dune has a legitimate chance at a film premier and a red carpet, as well as a promotion tour filled with interviews from the cast. The type of integral marketing We period the have gotten otherwise.

Think of it, a Stephen Colbert interview not over Zoom! Timothée and Zendaya actually on the red carpet together, no photoshop! The cast playing games and doing fun stuff together. Some of the best stuff that comes from film promotion, we will ACTUALLY GET.

3. HALLOWEEN THEMED COSTUMES!

Can you imagine the potential for stillsuits costumes, or Jessica’s dresses? Leto’s armour? It would be a perfect chance to market for the Halloween season given it is coming out on October, so the costume possibilities are numerous.

Imagine little kids running around dressed as Paul and Chani??

4. BEST FINAL PRODUCT

Even though I didn’t think it would have been a huge issue, Denis has been honest about the effect the pandemic has had on his editing process and it has clearly been stressful to try and make the December release.

He said it would be a race to finish, and he also talked about the problems editing had when social distancing. Now the whole crew had a whole year to take their time and not rush, but give this movie the time and care it needs to be the best possible version.

5. YOU HAVE TIME TO READ THE BOOK

If you were worried about finishing the book before the film comes out, or not wanting to start because you didn’t think you had the time, you have no reason to worry anymore! You have the time!

What with a whole year till the release, it is a perfect time to get a copy and start reading. There will be multiple options, physical read, the audiobook, and the graphic novel alternative as well. So take your pick!
