The National Party is organising an anti-lockdown protest outside Leinster House this Saturday. If you (or someone you know) is thinking of attending this event, you should read this and be fully aware of who you are supporting if you choose to attend the protest. -1 (A thread)
The @NationalPartyIE is a far-right, ultra-nationalist, ultra-Catholic organisation that was formed by Justin Barrett in 2016. -2
At their 2017 Ard Fheis, Barrett explained that the party is only open to 'straight Irish people' - a comment that caused the garda whistleblower, John Wilson, a guest speaker at the event, to leave the room in disgust. Barrett went on to deride Leo Varadkar for his 'gayness'. -3
The National Party wants to impose its extreme views on all of Irish society - to create a future that would see the LGBT community and foreign people harassed, intimidated, attacked and murdered. -4
If you think that couldn't happen in a modern European country, just look at what is already happening in Poland, Hungary and other countries. -5
Like fascists everywhere The National Party have no regard for democracy. They refuse to accept the democratic will of the Irish people as expressed during the 2015 same sex referendum - dismissing the view of the Irish people as a 'marxist cultural conspiracy'. -6
And like fascists everywhere they are willing to use extreme violence to achieve their ends. National Party thugs were to the fore of the gang that carried out a vicious and unprovoked attack at a recent anti-lockdown protest outside Leinster House -7
an attack that left LBGT activist Izzy Kamikaze with blood pouring from her head. -8
National Party members later used social media to gloat about the attack. Members of the same 'security team' have been involved in other assaults on the streets of Dublin and elsewhere in recent weeks. -9
The National Party also represents a very real threat to the Republican values of #Equality #Democracy #Community #Justice and #Tolerance -10
The values and policies of The National Party are the direct opposite of what Tone, Connolly, Markievicz, Pearse, Sands, Farrell and tens of thousands of others have fought and died for over the last 230 years. -11
By their own admission The National Party project is ‘nationalist' and not Republican. Their views and methods of organisation are indistinguishable from the Blueshirts and other Irish fascist groups of the 1930’s and 1940’s. -12
Back then Republicans successfully organised and defeated the Blueshirts. Irish Republicans will not be found wanting in this generation when it comes to standing up the bully boys of The National Party. -13
We would encourage anyone who views themselves as Republican to reject to the hate, bigotry and division of The National Party and the far-Right. -14
There is no excuse for marching with them or supporting them, no matter how angry you are about the government or the state of the country. -15
