I'm never one to do the watch a horror (or horror adjacent) movie every day of October, but so far have seen Spiral, Underworld, and Amsterdamned. The last was never on my radar, and had me cackling so furiously.
Tonight rewatching Scream for the first time since the '90s.
"It's called tact, you fuckrag." A phrase I'll need to keep in my back pocket.
Y'know, teen boys did feel this stupid when I was that age. It's a wonder I ever admitted liking guys.
It's fascinating what we accept as looking like a teenager, when almost everyone is in their 20s when this was filmed.
Town closing at a curfew because of the killer. This isn't realistic unless there are the folks complaining their rights are being trampled.
"Billy and his penis don't deserve you."

When we get back to poor decision making, that's good life advice to give friends.
Y'know, despite them being prevalent in the movies of the '90s, my high school years never saw me at a house party like this. Closest was cast parties after closing a play.
"You can tell this party isn't taking place in the Midwest. No one is in the kitchen at this party."
I recalled this movie going meta about being in a scary movie, but forgot how pervasive it was.
Tonight, introducing @dapneym to another movie he's never seen: Jawbreaker.
I'd forgotten Judy Greer, Carol Kane, and Pam Grier are in this. 😍😍😍
This is a springing off board to playing Imperial Teen, Nada Surf, etc.
The Cleansing Hour. Let's go the Shudder Original rabbit hole? This looks delightfully silly.
In many ways, this reminds me of a Buffy episode.
The Lords of Salem. Only ever seen one other Rob Zombie film (though grew up with parents who listened to the music all the time).
Patricia Quinn! Didn't expect to stumble on her in this movie.
Patricia Quinn discussing juices exploding between your legs was also not something I expected.
You can't meet Satan without your best KISS makeup. Everyone knows that.
That was about what I expected. Didn't realize House of a 1000 Corpses was part of a trilogy. Only other movie of his I've seen. Watched it from Netflix on a DVD they sent me way back when.
I forgot Tywin Lannister was in Alien 3, and so young!
Watching Stranger by the Lake. What if French Tom Selleck was a suspected killer at a gay cruising beach.

And landscapes.

And unsimulated sex?
We all make poor decisions in men. (They're men.)

But don't go chasing Murder D.
Pan's Labyrinth! Saw the meme about McConnell resembling the monster in this one and realized I haven't seen it since it released in theaters.
It is, however, @dapneym's first time. Ought to be amusing. On this day five years ago we saw Crimson Peak in theaters.
I forgot how dark that was. And fits in with Crimson Peak in being suggestive of the fantastical and surreal, but being grounded despite imagination.
Suspiria! The new one. Watched this with a gay gaggle at the Music Box on Halloween the year it released. Looking forward to seeing what I may have missed the first time.
Berlin is such a great setting for horror movies.

Also, the way they capture and play breath sounds is both ASMR-level and creepy.
Perception is big. Lots of glass, windows, mirrors, etc. Paranoia over being seen. But perception cannot be trusted.
Stamping of official documents porn. Must be Germany.
Similar to Midsommar, there's a great deal of time spent on building a sense of community and a woman's autonomy.
A room surrounded by mirrors, cyclical breathing, piano motiffs that are just variations, counting in repetition. There's a cycle being built. This has happened (as a reference even to the 1977 film?) and will again.
I have no idea how I missed the Scarlet Letter reference in this sequence of images depicting a young woman's sexual awakening.
They did a good job of the age makeup for the male character Tilda plays, but disguising that voice just does not seem possible.
Some of the localization choices they made for these subtitles have me scratching my head though.
I like the movie, but it does feel like it tried to have too large a flock of ideas and doesn't quite nail the landing on any of the points it flits by.
