Let's just get this outta the way.
Dear internet, I ABSOLUTELY understand the want to automatically equate free things to favorable coverage. I and other folks in this industry have been doing this work for LONG TIME.

I've personally done way too much work building up a good reputation to let free things sway me. Do I like free cool stuff, ABSOLUTELY! Am I grateful for the opportunities my hard work as afforded me? ABSOLUTELY! Does that sway my opinion in the way I share my opinions? Nope!
I have called things wack that are wack and great things great. I also don't play in the game of hot takes so my opinions are more nuanced that a lot of folks and my numbers suffer because of that to be honest. That's because all I have in this industry at the end of the day.
Is my ability to convey how I'm feeling and thinking about a game/product/service through the prism, experiences and viewpoints I bring to the table. That all hinges on you having faith in my word and believing that I am being genuine when I do this work.
I've never not been 100% me while being in this industry. Pretty much anyone in my circle or people I co-sign are like this too. I don't have time to front or fake my way through any of this ESPECIALLY with windows of opportunity being so small so if you rock with that then good!
If you come into the space with an already biased opinion that folks doing this work are mindless zombies with no ability to discern how business works and what the tradeoffs are then there isn't a lot that I can say or do to help you there.
Most of the folks in this industry care deeply about the health of it and the folks who work in it. Most of us also want to enjoy our time in this industry in the ways we can. Putting out good energy is a choice, being nuanced is a choice. Being humble is a choice.
Today's conversations all could have been handled better, & all players involved have worked VERY hard to gain whatever status they currently have. With that, I leave you all with a message of love, safety & a want for everyone in the industry to take time to understand our part
In making these spaces better, smarter and more nuanced due to how easily misinformation can spread and how that misinformation makes it harder for everyone to do their respective jobs.
