"SANCHO NEWS???" - Okay then… (A thread) #BVB #MUFC

There’s been a lot of nonsense surrounding Jadon Sancho for almost two months. The window for him to leave Borussia Dortmund closed on 10 Aug, as said at the time - and frequently repeated. (1/13)
Manchester United made formal contact with Sancho’s representatives and he was fully open to a move. His management agency were subsequently advised of a deadline, for Dortmund to plan for the season ahead - 10 August, and for a price of no less than €120m. (2/13)
This was conveyed to Manchester United, who believed it to be a negotiating tactic - big mistake.

Intermediaries were brought in to try and broker a deal. (3/13)
The price was too high for Utd, they were told no negotiation on the top end, once again Utd believed it to be a negotiation tactic - another big mistake. (4/13)
10 Aug passed, Sancho was once more advised by Dortmund - that was it, he accepted the situation but believed Utd may present an offer on Dortmund’s terms, this never materialised. (5/13)
Reports of the two clubs being close to a deal were wide of the mark, Utd didn’t offer anything satisfactory via Marco Lichtsteiner - or anyone else, that line of communication ended shortly after 10 Aug.

What played out in parts of the media afterwards was fanciful. (6/13)
Sancho never agitated for a move, nor considered it. Information from Dortmund was and still is - Sancho is fully understanding of the situation.

He was also made aware of two other clubs who expressed an interest, they should be in a position to make offers next summer. (7/13)
However; one final line of communication was opened up in late September. United were told emphatically - the window for Sancho to leave had passed, no matter what you offer. (8/13)
“Last chance for United to sign Jadon Sancho” was pushed daily for eight weeks = pure sensationalism. (9/13)
As was the “we hear Dortmund may be willing to move on their price” - to coin a phase - Not True

This transfer was dead in the water from Dortmund’s side on 10 Aug, when sporting director Michael Zorc insisted "the decision is final" - that was NO negotiation tactic. (10/13)
As one UK journalist reported this week from Dortmund's HQ - “Everybody here has said all along - why are you here?”

Jadon Sancho happily, and never reluctantly, joined his teammates at the Swiss training camp on Aug 10, after returning from a weekend trip to the UK. (11/13)
He was then sidelined late September with a respiratory issue, like Roman Bürki - it was not to “force a move” or because he was “unhappy” - he was simply, not match fit. (12/13)
Sancho remains a target for two other clubs who monitored his situation closely - one Spanish and one other English side. But for now, he is contracted to Borussia Dortmund until 2023 and his value, Dortmund say, “can only get higher”. (13/13 - unlucky for some)
