Let me explain to you why I am extremely, incredibly frustrated right now.
This weekend I tested positive for #COVID19.
I knew this was a risk I was taking - continuing to work in an ED during a pandemic, this was always a possibility

But for the last six months, my partner and I have canceled every trip/event we had planned. We go out to get groceries. Sometimes we get things to do yard work. That's it. No restaurants. No bars. Always with masks, frequently with industrial N95s.
We try to always maintain 6 feet of distance, frequently trying to get away from people who seem to almost deliberately be trying to get close to us.
Our only recreation has been hiking - one of the few things you can do that doesn't expose you to others.

Meanwhile, the people of Wisconsin, the Republican majority state senate, the Republican majority federal senate, and the POTUS, all are not taking this seriously.
I snapped this picture of a bar in SE WI just under two weeks ago, when it was already clear things were getting out of hand in WI.
Wisconsinites are treating this like it doesn't matter.

We have the least active state legislature in the nation on this issue - they've met to discuss pandemic related legislature a grand total of ONCE (source: https://madison.com/wsj/news/local/govt-and-politics/as-covid-19-cases-surge-gov-tony-evers-doesnt-rule-out-extending-mask-order-other/article_32c867c5-7d2e-561a-b6ee-c3f1d6dd3f67.html) since the pandemic started
The argument back in May when @GovEvers
emergency order was struck down was that any long-term restrictions should be the purview of the legislature, not the governor. I've heard this repeated by Republican legislators on @WPR.

Kind of hard for them to legislate on this when they aren't meeting, though.
So I'm frustrated.
I was prepared that I might contract this illness due to poor luck. I wasn't prepared to contract it because of the extreme carelessness exhibited by our neighbors and our politicians.

This isn't a political issue. This is a human decency issue. And honestly, it's a self interest issue. If your decisions lead to healthcare workers getting sick, then who's going to take care of you when you get sick? Hopefully there will still be enough of us around to do that
Please. Please look in your heart for the part that doesn't have a political affiliation, but has human empathy. It's not fun to stay home. It's not fun to avoid bars. It's not fun to legislate and do your job when your constituents might not like it. It's not fun to wear a mask.
But it will save lives.
