My take: I'm of the opinion that ppl push to ridicule it so much bc *generally* women engaged with it, and.. Sexism. But I think astrology is worth no more mockery than any other reasonable belief. It hasn't harmed ppl the same way political and religious ideologies have hurt ppl https://twitter.com/Chaneil_James/status/1312722360219439104
I think in some ways, theres a romance to people believing they are intimately tied to stars! The human condition wishes to find meaning and connection to some grand purpose and fate. Some find it through the Bible, some find it through their birth charts
If "believes in intelligent design" and "being an evolutionary biologist" aren't mutually exclusive, i don't see why "believes the stars offer insight to ourselves" and "being an astronomer" should be.
Plus, I know ppl for whom astrology is how they got into STEM at all (ppl who were not from science families). I found the most accessible way for me to do star talks for general public is astrology--not everyone knows the myth of Cassandra, but almost everyone knows their sign
Do I believe in a daily horoscope? Or astrological cartography? Not really. Do I think people use astrology birth charts to try to understand themselves? Sure.
Do I think it's science? No and I've never heard anyone claim it is at all, unlike essential oils or memory vitamins!
P.s. astrology opens a whole new door for memes making fun of urself and ur pals, as many of my long-suffering friends have quickly learned. This thread is a very Libra move of me 😉
