With the transfer window closing shut- and a bit of time to kill on the sun bed- I decided to go through every PL manager and pick whether or not they would sign THEMSELVES at the peak of their playing powers đź’Ş

Arsenal: YES

If Mohammed Elneny can make an inspired comeback under Arteta, think how good Arteta would be under Arteta. The glossy Spaniard would be perfect for the Gunners new high risk, high reward system of playing out from the back.

Aston Villa: YES

Dean Smith never set foot in the EPL as a player, but played +500 games in the Football League as an old school, centre back. Villa have improved defensively since the tail end of last season, and would certainly be sured up with Smithy in the side.

#AVFC
Burnley: YES

There’s not a manager in world football who personifies his team better than Sean Dyche at Burnley. A tough, no nonsense “gravelly”, defender who has an underrated technical mind.

#BUR
Brighton: NO

As nice a bloke Graham Potter seems to be, even he wouldn’t find room for himself in the Brighton dressing room. Left back by trade, he played 8 times in the league with Southampton, retiring at the age of 30.

#BHAFC
Chelsea: YES

With Ross Barkleys loan to Villa, everything would be set up for Frank to return and reclaim his no.8 jersey. Kanté in for Makele, Kovacic in for Tiago, and you can mirror the midriff that won the title back in 2004/05.

#CFC
Palace: NO

Coaching in 8 countries, leading your national team into three major tournaments and taking charge of Liverpool and Milan does not equate to a decent playing career. Roy spent majority of his life in non-league, even turning up in the South African 1st div.

#CPFC
Everton: YES

Carlo Ancelotti loves working with the games greatest stars, and there were few bigger and better than Ancelotti during his time with AC Milan in the late 80s early 90s. A excellent midfield general, his only weakness was his prone to injury.

#EFC
Fulham: YES

Fulham could do with an XI full of Parker’s the rate they’re going in the PL. Despite looking swauve on the touchline in his managerial suit, Parker was hardly flashy on the field. Hardwork and dedication he had in abundance.

#FFC
Leeds: NO

As lauded and loved Marcelo Bielsa is by the media, fans and opponents alike, he really was a rubbish footballer. He hung up his boots at 25 after realising that he was limited physically and his meticulous mind was better suited to coaching.

#LUFC
Leicester: NO

Unfortunately, Brendan Rodgers never actually reached his playing peak. At the age of 20, a genetic knee condition forced to him retire, having only just signed for Reading, where he remained as a coach.

#LCFC
Liverpool: YES

This would have been a no until Villa smacked seven past the reigning champs. Klopp could have done with an old school, rock and roll centre back that takes no prisoners, much like Klopp was during his days at Mainz.

#LFC
Manchester United: YES

Much has been mentioned about Manchester United’s lack of movement in the transfer window, so who better to bring in that an assured striker who doesn’t mind sitting on the bench? Ole would be a good back up for Ole to bring on in the big matches.

#MUFC
Man City: YES

With Fernandinho in decline, and his defence still in disarray, Pep could be the solution to all City’s problems. Busquet-esc in his physique and playing style, the former Barca man was an underrated linchpin in the Spanish side, just what Pep is after.

#MCFC
Newcastle: YES

Who wouldn’t want to see Steve Bruce and Andy Carroll attack every corner, set piece or throw in with their head and then going for a pie and a pint after the game? You can also imagine Bruce being best mates with Bruce.

#NUFC
Sheff U: YES

Although never the most gifted, Wilder cut his teeth in the lower divisions, as well as featuring for United. Wilder has a loyalty to those who served the Blades through the tougher periods, and like Phil Jageilka, has no issues of nostalgic returns.

#SUFC
Southampton: NO

With Danny Ings red hot form, there would be no room for the robust Hasenhuttl in the Saints ranks. A tall, traditional CF, he scored 3 goals across 2 years for Koln. His best tally was for Austria Vienna, scoring 58 in 179; Ings already has 36 in 71.

#SaintFC
Spurs: NO

The Special One had an underwhelming playing career. He never ventured from his homeland in Portugal. Would have loved to have seen Jose bring Jose off after 30 mins, only for Jose to throw his water ball into the ground and for Jose to call him out post match

#THFC
West Brom: YES

Bilic has already signed an experienced, old school defender in Ivanovic, so why not add another in Bilic himself. Like Klopp, he was a solid CB with a love for a music, but unlike his counterpart, Bilic played in the PL with West Ham and Everton.

#WBA
West Ham: YES

Remarkably, Moyes made +500 career appearances before turning to management. Admittedly, most were in Scotland or a lesser team in England, yet he did score 15 goals from centre half for Preston, which is three more than record signing, Sebastian Haller.

#WHU
Wolves: YES

Nuno is the only ex-GK to make up this illustrious list, so on that premise he’s lacking in competition for a spot in the wolf pack. He worked with Mourinho at Porto, and he has the main credential that Wolves look for in their signings; a Portuguese passport.

#WOL
No messing about with a back 4 full of CBs. Midfield is full of creativity and composure, with Lamps playing just off Ole in the 10.

Team will finish 6th after a strong start, but lose four in a row post-Xmas after Ancelotti gets injured, with Smith filling in at CM.
