This claim from cinema chains that there's "no movies to play right now" is such bogus nonsense. Just because there is no MEGA BLOCKBUSTER available right now (aside from Tenet?) that people want to see, doesn't mean there aren't hundreds of other movies to show instead anyway.
Not to mention their own stubbornness regarding theatrical windows means they are refusing to show movies that ARE available to play. Not to mention that people want to go to the cinema anyway even if a film is available at home. Not to mention showing indies is still exciting.
I know it's not possible to get EVERYONE to come to the cinema if there isn't some big, dumb blockbuster to show. BUT there is plenty of content to show. It's nonsense that there isn't. And I've always felt it's up to the entire industry to get people excited about indie films.
Just bothers me all these cinema chain execs talk about studio content like that's all. It's disingenuous to claim there isn't any content when there is. Get people excited about docs! Get them excited about some sci-fi indie films! There's PLENTY out there. So many great films.
They even admit it! Here: "there’s a pent-up demand like we've never seen before to go out and enjoy a safe environment socially with others." Via https://www.burnleyexpress.net/business/consumer/we-will-get-through-says-vue-cinema-chain-boss-cineworld-closes-theatres-2992691 So they're saying there's a demand "like no other" to see movies? Yet then say there aren't any to show?
