*Clears throat* Mic Check ... I have a tiny announcement to make. #Thread
For those who have followed me for a while, you would know that one thing I'm passionate about is helping people find their way into tech and progressing towards their goals.
When I started doing this, Twitter DMs made sense. I kept them open. So anyone at all could contact me. This was easy to do at the time when I had less than 5K followers.
But over time, I'm sure a lot of you can attest to the fact that my response rates have slowed down ... the more followers I got, the more overwhelming it became.
While I wish I could respond to every single person, it's just not possible. I reached out to a few friends with a sizable following on Twitter to understand how they manage DMs and see if there was a better way to do it.
After trying out a few things, what seems to work (at least at this point) is one on one conversations. Reason why is because a conversation that starts as a twitter DM always have follow up questions. So if you sent me a message with 1 question, waits 2 months to get a response
And then have follow up questions, by the time we are actually done talking, a year could pass by (true story, a lot of people have had this experience and I hate it)
So ... instead of doing twitter DMs, we are going to try a new format. 15 minutes One on One sessions. I've tried this with a few people privately over the last 2 weeks and it's worked really well.
I'll be dedicating 2 hours on Saturdays and Sundays for this so I can talk to a max of 8 people every weekend. Is this a perfect solution? I'm not sure. We will try it and see how it goes after 3 months.
So, if you'd like to talk to me about whatever (review your code, tech career paths, mentoring, etc ...) grab a slot on my calendar: https://calendly.com/edem-kumodzi/one-on-one
With this said. I'll be closing my twitter DMs. This will allow me to respond to everyone I haven't responded to yet and moving forward be less overwhelming for me.
I hope this works out. If it doesn't, we will think about something else. Thanks for coming to my TED talk. #DropsMic
