Thread: I have seen a lot of pastors say something to the tune of “don’t cheapen the gospel/the pulpit by preaching about politics”. I want to respectfully challenge that premise, with the disclaimer that there have been many that have gone to far with preaching about politics.
There is a balance that can be struck. This type of thinking puts politics in a special category. There is no Biblical basis for this. In fact government is all throughout the Bible. Almost the entire OT was written by a man of government, to a man of government or about a man of
government. God instituted government. “It’s inconceivable that the God who created government would want his own people to stay out of it.”- Pastor Brad Wells. Satan is always attacking God’s institutions. The home, the church and government. We courageously fight for our homes
and our churches. Why would we not fight for our government? Spiritual principles of Salt and Light and Stewardship can also apply here. Another common statement is that the political fight/ fight over rights is beneath the church and the gospel will continue on though government
will rise and fall. This is mostly true. However, there is one massive fallacy in the statement. We have God given rights and that is what we should be fighting for. If the church doesn’t get engaged in fighting for God given rights who is going to? Is it somehow unbiblical to
fight for what God has given us? Politics is not in some special category. It’s God institution and it is a spiritual battle that rages. One of the common truths we all preach, as we should, the Bible has the answers to all of life’s problems. So why then does politics get an
exemption? Pastors, by not taking God’s truth and applying it to the issues of the day you are not rising above the fray you are disengaging from the battle. We are engaged in spiritual warfare and some of our best soldiers are not showing up to the fight.
Pastors and Christians I implore you to engage with Biblical truth! Help be the example our country and our churches so desperately need. Now is not the time to fight for party or personalities. It is time to fight for God given rights in the political arena!
