To all new students arriving this week, #WelcomeToOxford! Take some time to get yourself prepared, organised, and settled in in this, the strangest of times. Here are some tips:
Firstly, give us a follow on here and on Insta! We’ll keep you up to date with news and opportunities from the Department. It’s also worth finding your college and giving them a follow if you haven’t already, too.
Your tutor and college family are on hand to answer any of your questions, but if there’s anything we can help with (or you don't know who to ask!), drop us a DM – we’re happy to chat!
We asked for some tips, and here are some helpful ones:
Get involved, and ask for help! https://twitter.com/EllisCONeill/status/1311248033900883968?s=20
Try new things – you may be surprised what you end up loving! It’s also okay to not find everything intuitive, we all have strengths and we all have things that aren’t our thing. (Personally, I’m /really/ bad at stats). https://twitter.com/Joshua_AJones/status/1310943948240805894?s=20
Elisa is a very wise person. Take her advice. Be kind. https://twitter.com/Prokaryota/status/1311235760809484290?s=20
Starting university is hard. There’s a lot of change, and all of that is amplified this year. A lot of freshers are probably as anxious as they are excited. That’s normal! Make use of welfare services if you need them – that’s what they’re there for.
Add more tips to this thread if you have them! And freshers, say hello – we can’t wait to meet you!
You can follow @OxfordBiology.
