The Ferranti factory at Crewe Toll was opened in 1943 specifically to manufacture "Gyro" gunsights https://twitter.com/Ants1875/status/1312853416339701763
Here is a close up photo of that clock tower that for many years was a local landmark https://www.flickr.com/photos/cagiva1994/14588265672/
When the factory was rebuilt in the 1990s/2000s, the WW2 part to the east was demolished and rebuilt and the post-war part to the west was remodelled and refurbished. The clock face was moved to the stair tower of the newer part.
Here are some more photos of the factory, including a Mark II Gyro gunsight and a woman testing components. Like many wartime factories, women were a key part of the workforce https://twitter.com/newbattleatwar/status/839555831221874688
The "Gyro" gunsight was the invention of Edinburgh statistician, physicist and aeronautics expert Dr Leslie Bennet Craigie ("LBC") Cunningham, who had worked out you could use a spinning gyroscope to compensate for the movement of an aircraft to help better aim its guns
