Givenchy SS21 RTW — review

I like the completely different stylistic approach to the brand. I can't say that it was needed because I'm not as knowledgeable on CWK's Givenchy, but it's always interesting to see different designers' aesthetics incorporated in heritage brands.
I LOVED the textiles! They really made each look stand out, so I hope he keeps experimenting with those. The black look on the right looks like leather, but with a crumpled up tinfoil texture? I'm obsessed with it. And the — what, laser cut? — look on the right is just GORGEOUS.
The bags also captured my attention. Williams is into hardware so it makes sense for him to focus on the accessories here, it was probably a business strategy too, which is a smart move.
I'm not too obsessed with the shoes, though. The first ones are giving me 2014 studded sneakers from hot topic vibes. These skeleton-looking heels don't fit well with the flats-style shoe for me. And the 3-toe tabi-esque ones look uncomfortable to wear.
I do, however, LOVE these ones. They remind me of Tabitha Ringwood, Bottega Veneta, and one other designer whose name I can't remember. And I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not, but I like them the most out of all the shoes.
Some looks are better than others. I don't really understand what he's going for in these ones... but the brown leather of the box top and the bag are eye-catching. So... there's that.
One thing I will praise him for that's very refreshing for heritage brands getting into streetwear, is that there's an evident lack of logos plastered across the clothing and accessories. He says he wants his hardware to replace the role of logos, which I can 100% get behind on.
Overall, as this is his first collection for the brand, it's a decent start. I don't have too strong opinions yet, so we'll how if his future collections progressively get better, stay the same level, or get worse.
