1. So I watched Social Dilemma last night. While I’ve known about algorithms for some time, hearing from the tech creators of Twitter, Facebook,Instagram, Google etc.was really eye opening. If you want to know why the world is so divided right now I highly recommend you watch it.

2. You and I are users of social media. As someone on the programme said, because social media is ‘free’ we are in fact the product. Who we are, what we search for, what we’re interested in is for sale to advertisers BUT also to manipulators who wish to destabilise the world

3. They’re currently focusing on countries with democracy’s. How they do it is through the algorithm. So say you search for Covid 19. You hate lockdown, you’re searching on how to get rid of it. Your data is used to bring forward articles,videos,tweets & posts to fuel that need

4. They bring forward highly emotive information to draw you in. You then follow other people in your algorithm tribe who match those same ideas. Now is when the division begins. You against the opposite of what you believe. To destabilise democracy & the country.

5. So for example if George Soros wanted socialism or Marxism brought into the Western world, he’d pay into these tech giants to bring ideas onto the newsfeed on twitter, Facebook, Google for those people who are open to socialism. Those users would then become products to...

6. destabilise our society. How would they do this? They’d suddenly become more and more interested in reducing or manipulating free speech. They’d feel strongly about cancelling people who go against the new idea, a good example would be the use of pronouns. They’d reframe words

7. Like racism, xenophobia, Terf, as more commonly used words to attack anyone against the idea and meanwhile the most malleable members of society, the young, who have grown up more plugged in to tech would suck up these new ideas as sponges. They play a long game, slowly...

8. pushing these new ideas in so before we know it a long term plan is taking fruition. And if any side of the division changes the script, you would then see the algorithm divide that group so the uprising is slowed down as the focus goes elsewhere.

9. We are being deliberately divided. If you can’t put you phone down for longer than an hour without checking social media, google, twitter etc..you’re already plugged into the mainframe. The movie the Matrix was not far off the truth of our current society. We are the batteries

10. And if you feel your side is better than the other, you’re also being manipulated. We all are. What can we do? Confuse the algorithm. Search for surprising things, remove social media from your phone, use it less often. Question articles, tweets, google searches that fuel

11. anger or fear in you. See if the last video you watched is followed by a similar one...that’s the algorithm. Friday I posted on the Sainsbury’s tweet about separation of BAME spaces, I posted about safe spaces for women...

12. I used no keywords or hashtags. Yet I received a huge number of attacks from tweeters and abuse. How did they find that random tweet in a sea of BAME tweets? The algorithm drew those who would be triggered by my words. Socialism, Political correctness, removal of free speech

13. Be aware. That’s all we can do.
