okay here’s my highly anticipated thread on commodity fetishism that I’m probably gonna look back on and think is shit but here we go okay so I guess I’ll start with what commodity fetishism is and carry on from there but

Commodity fetishism is the process of giving commodities a metaphysical attribute or “fetish” that is by the laws of nature unattainable for that commodity an example being how some people think wearing Nike gear symbolizes athletic ability

Commodity fetishism makes it so we no longer see commodity as things we see the type of clothing someone wears as a sign of personal expression and identity and not just a bunch of fabric mass produced under in humane conditions

commodity fetishism is created by a society where every conversation includes a commodity and every “meaningful” social interaction includes a commodity

but you see commodity fetishism plays a role in the spectacular society we have today everything has become a spectacle for you due to the alienation that inherently exists within capitalism that is alleviated by commodity fetishism

let’s b sad rq you live in a box on top of stolen land in order to pay for this box your strap yourself into another box except this one moves and this box you travel to a workplace where you’re disenfranchised and alienated from the products of your labor and the ppl around u

to drive in that same box to that very same you started your day at to do the whole thing again and the main wall that is put up between you and realizing the cruel world capitalism has created for its consumer-workers is commodity fetishism

what you ask placates people enough to become complacent in this? Commodities and Commodity fetishism it is because these things overpriced and overproduced are given a metaphysical attribute therefore leading the masses to believe that to attain said metaphysical attribute

you must attain said commodity now why is this relevant to twitter well this application is a commodity and so is the object you’re using to access it the sole purpose is to provide an imaginary metaphysical way of thinking you’re socially accepted

which is why social capital rarely transfers over but yes y’all be fetishizing this app lol
