Our immigration system is an old system designed by sons of the Confederacy. The 1st border agents were sons of Confederate generals and colonels. 2) you get inequality, brutality and racism. Today, the majority of migrants are asylum seekers. This is because we, the United States, have propped up the dictators of their countries and stripped the resources from their lands until everything is dead.

3) The vast majority of asylum seekers are not criminals. Most are manual laborers, some are higher educated. It just so happens that our infrastructure is crumbling and we are buried in debt. Infrastructure must consider immigration as a primary source for workers.

4) Instead of indefinite detention, I advocate for welcoming centers where families can wait while records checks and health checks are being performed. Companies would be contracted for security, health, cleaning, trauma, language. Once they pass security and health, they

5) would be assisted in their travel to family or friends in other states and cities. There they will find smaller welcoming centers instead of detention centers. Your parents will no longer be detaining immigrants in inhumane conditions that get them sick and make them

6) miserable. They will assist the new immigrants with finding places to live, language, schooling, work. Faith groups will be important as many are religious. Your parents may be teachers or trauma therapists, employment finders or English teachers. There will be a need for

7) case managers to assure that immigrant families meet the requirements and attend any hearings. The system must be transformed to a more humanitarian one. One that only uses force when absolutely necessary. This system would not deny that there is crime on the border,

8) but it would not falsely lump all those coming to our border as criminals. CBP and Border Patrol would have there powers and surveillance limited and they would be held accountable. I would also demand that past deaths and abuses be re-investigated.

9) I believe the Border Patrol must be shuttered and a different agency with a similar, more narrow purpose must be created. Granted, current management must all be axed. They have shown that they will violate the Constitution and the law to blindly follow a leader who will not

10) hold them accountable. This must be done with input from the border communities. It is their backyard that has been militarized and their skin that is on the line. Their voice must be listened to. That’s just a general concept.

11) Organizations like @SBCCoalition have been working on this for decades. They don’t deny there must be security on our border but they want it to be humane. Their voices must be heard in this.

12) We need to invest heavily in bringing the immigration courts into the 21st century. It should be streamlined with massive input from attorneys. The courts and judges should be held under our normal judicial system and not held at the whim of the AG. Lots to do!
