We evolved with our mortality as a central experience of who we are as humans. It's now that we ignore it, put a spray tan and hair dye on septuagenarians and call that 'the prime of life,' that's the aberration. That's the thing we didn't evolve to handle.
I have a literal doctorate in thinking about death a lot, and trust me, humans in general have thought about death a lot. A LOT lot.
