White Supremacy in Pima County
We often think about white supremacy as an abstract concept, one that we’ve been able to overcome in Pima County. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. We have so much more work to do. 1/12

Earlier this week, I participated in a candidate interview, hosted by The Arizona Daily Star’s Editorial Board. The Board invited both myself and my Republican opponent, Benny White, to participate in a casual debate-like forum. 2/12
As expected, we heard a lot of antiquated ideas from my opponent. What was unexpected, however, was just how problematic some of his views actually are. 3/12
In an offensively jaw dropping moment, Benny dismissively listed the “lack of education” as one of the main reasons why he believes Native Americans don’t vote. Why is this line of thinking so dangerous? 4/12
Believing people were too uneducated to participate in voting was the idea behind literacy tests and other voter suppression tactics that we have fought so hard throughout our country’s troubled history to eliminate. How does that connect to my opponent’s line of thinking? 5/12
He also argued that low turnout was a reason why we shouldn’t reach out to underserved communities! When pressed to explain his stance, he argued that the 14th Amendment: which guarantees one’s right to equal treatment under the law, was a reason why we should not be 6/12
reaching out to underserved communities. He also suggested the outreach plans encompassed in the platform of our campaign, geared towards vulnerable communities, are illegal! 7/12
Although we may brush off the ridiculous nature of these statements, it is important to recognize that they don’t come out of thin air. They are based in a dark historical legacy of disenfranchisement and suppression by design. 8/12
On top of it, our opponent is considered to be a serious contender in this race.
Ideas like his are dangerous, and they have no place in Pima County, but we’re running out of time. Ballots will be mailed out THIS Wednesday, October 7th!

We need your help to reach even more voters and share our message, to defeat this dangerous line of thinking. We’re on the brink of historic change and a giant leap forward for our county. 10/12
Can you help us pay for Spanish language radio ads, buy additional advertising space in rural newspapers, and cover more printing costs to reach these needed voters? 11/12
If you’re able to donate $5, $15, $25 or $50 to help our campaign sprint across the finish line, you’re helping reach the very voters we’ll need if we’re going to change the face of our country. Let& #39;s do this! https://secure.actblue.com/donate/noplaceforwhitesupremacy
