VP of @strathconares on #strathconapark encampment. #vanpoli #bcpoli https://twitter.com/kelewis/status/1312782370718666752
recent thread from @JenStDen on staff report on emergency #housing options https://twitter.com/JenStDen/status/1312527310159929345
as Jen notes, nothing decided yet. For people interested - also spoke to Iain DeJong at @orgcode who has interesting webinar at @caeh site https://caeh.ca/encampment-webinar-series/
He says each encampment is different, and local politics different in each site. But in general, doesn't think sanctioned encampments are a good idea and favours measured strategic approach - assessment, management, closure.
in part because of costs. I spent a couple of days trying to get updated costs related to encampment known as #anitaplace in @YourMapleRidge ; was told costs still being tabulated but will surpass previously-reported figures.
Iain's argument is that such costs would be better put toward housing. And that if you have a sanctioned camp - expectations for sanitation, services etc will of course be higher - as they should be.
just wrapping up this thread, was looking for something else and came across this tweet. There have for years been a handful of tents in #strathconapark. Now there are ~400. Winter is coming. -30-
