Here's a truth: Poison Ivy deserves to be a hero. She is DC's most socially relevant character: queer feminist, environmentalist, badass activist. The people screaming about keeping her a villain are just projecting their misogyny and/or don't really care about the character.

Proof is that the people screaming to keep Poison Ivy a villain have absolutely no idea about her character development and think that it's just about Harley. Truth is Poison Ivy has been a lot more heroic than Harley the past years and has a solid development towards heroism.

From protecting the homeless and the orphans of Gotham (No Mans Land) to cleaning the city and taking down corporations (Cycle of Life and Death, Secret Origins) to saving the planet (All Star Batman) saving Gotham (Det.Comics) saving men from a virus (Batgirl & the BoP).

Poison Ivy has grown. And these stories are solo stories, if we put in the AU and the Harley stories she had a tremendous growth towards heroism. And even before New52 I have written many articles for her development and growth as a hero with pre flashpoint stories.

Of course the people who scream about pushing Poison Ivy as a villain either ignore or don't want to talk about these stories and Ivy's development. Because they don't care and remember a version of Ivy that exists only in the Batman and Robin film.

The recent story in Joker War Zone is an awful one and as fans, as queer readers and socially conscious consumers we need to keep asking directly @ DC publishers, editorial and writers to make Poison Ivy a hero. We need to ask for the best so we can at least get something good.

I'll keep asking every day. If you want to pitch in, please do so. Poison Ivy is a character that inspires us. If we stay silent now, do not expect good stuff. We stayed silent because of the enthusiasm for the animated show and here's where we are: Ivy in her worst position ever

We speak now, we ask for heroic Poison Ivy and in a fee months perhaps we will get something good. But if we stay silent all we will get is Poison Ivy as Carnage strangling babies. This is where they are heading with the character attacking Gotham blindly.
