This government seems to think that issuing bans - lockdowns, curfews - is enough to arrest the spread of the virus

No thought has gone into some of the bans (the 10pm curfew seems especially unthought-through)

They may as well be waving a wand saying something in cod latin

Law is not magic

Prohibitions do not work by themselves

There has to be some rational connection between what you are seeking to do with a law and an outcome

9.
Now the laws are multiplying - lockdown upon lockdown, regulation upon regulation - like so many water-carrying brooms in a ghastly Fantasia

And all the government can think to do is summon more brooms

They do not understand that you cannot just legislate away a virus

10.
Of course, laws have a place within a public health emergency

But they have to be credible and easily understood and realistic, and part of a broader policy approach, including non-legal measures such as resource prioritisation, proper funding, public information and so on

11.
Law is not magic

Law-makers are not magicians

To keep on making laws against a virus is no more effective than casting spells against it
