my gentrifying ass, white ass, ex-landlord needs to run my security deposit back ASAP. it’s been a month since i left the Instagram apartment. apparently it was burglarized but i don’t sympathize with gentrifiers.
last august, my housing plans fell through at the last minute and i needed to find an apartment in like 5 days b/c I was starting grad school.
my grad program only lasted 9ish months so I didn’t want to buy furniture. the IG apartment LOOKED good, so I rented it quickly.

it was mad cute, i’m not gonna lie, but i would never live here again.
mind you, this apartment is in HARLEM but it looks like Sweden b/c my landlord is a European architect. she and her husband are harvard grads and declared that only Ivy grads lived in their building

as I was moving out, one of my white neighbors said his fav thing about Harlem were vegan spots and juice places. those are the kinds of ppl my ex landlord rented to.

within the first three weeks, my window leaked and the couch broke. the microwave stopped working and the racist repair people told my landlord I just didn’t know how to use it.
the contractors cut corners so i had a mice problem for months b/c they didn’t seal my unit.

i didn’t have hot water in the kitchen for some time, the window screen fell out so there were bugs, the front door wasn’t flush to the floor, the door lock was keyless but the handle was perpetually broken. every time I used my blow dryer, the power went out.
this lady charged me $2.4K per month to live in a place that wasn’t habitable based on the terms of my lease.
the only reason i didn’t leave is b/c the worst issues began during winter and I was buried in schoolwork. she hounded me about rent even though I was NEVER late.

now she’s delaying my security deposit and wants me to sympathize b/c the place was burglarized. GOOD!!! that’s what you get for exploiting this community.
and i know she’s desperate b/c she’s renting my unit for $600 less b/c all of her gentrifying clientele LEFT.
