Indeed every professional mathematician has seen the human aspects of, say, publishing and hiring; and it’s important not to pretend those are objective in the same (perhaps weak) sense, say, a proof is.
Moreover it’s important not to pretend the profession is apolitical—as in the statement’s examples, we’re heavily influenced by policy (and I can think of many more examples besides, for example the use of the TOEFL to exclude international students).
The debate over mathematical Platonism is interesting and fun, but I think we do it a disservice by turning it into a culture war topic, and more importantly we do a disservice to the important issues raised here by ignoring them in favor of the culture war.
