these are the loudest larry songs, and that’s why. midnight memories era.

happily
it’s similar to the song They Don't Know About Us, happily is quite clearly about a "forbidden romance" and the yearning / longing that comes with such a situation. however, unlike TDKAU, happily does not include any mention of female pronouns. harry refers to the person
as "baby" and "love," not "girl". it is also interesting to note that in the song, harry mentions that his "baby" is with another person (and that harry wants "baby" to be with him instead). Notable lyrics: "I don't care what people say when we're together /You know I wanna be-
-the one to hold you when you sleep / l just want it to be you and I forever "-------" You don't understand, you don't understand / What you do to me when you hold his hand / We were meant to be but a twist of fate / Made it so you ad to walk away "
Interpretation: Harry knows-
that they face criticism if he and "baby" were to be together, but so long as they have one another, he does not care. But unfortunately, they cannot be with one another (at least publicly).
Right Now
Right Now is the most ambiguous song in terms of Larry coding on the album but the theme of forbidden love is still prevalent in the lyrics. Notable lyrics: "I'm feeling like right now / l wish you were here with me / 'Cause right now / Everything is new to me / You-
-know I can't fight the feeling / And every night | feel it / Right now / l wish you were here with me. " Interpretation: Just as depicted in Happily and TDKAU, the singer wishes to be with the object of their desire (gender non-specific) and yet know they cannot. However-
-the singer knows that to fight their desire is a futile battle. No matter what they do, every night and every day they still wish to be with the one they love. There is no denying it anymore.
Why Don't We Go There
One again, like the rest of the songs on the album, Why Don't We Go There is explicitly about "forbidden love" and the act of breaking rules and living free with one another (if only for how little time they have). Notable lyrics: "Say the word, say the-
-word but don't say no / Skydive, you and I, with just these clothes / The secret's safe with me / There's no right time or place / 'Cause anyone can see we'll do it anyway "-----" Hey, I don't want you to be the one that got away "- '-----" Just let me set you free / Cause we-
got all night / And we're going nowhere "Interpretation: This song is ambiguous in terms of Larry-coding, but the word “secret” hints at a deeper message. What is the secret? That they skydive? That cant be it. That they are living free, if only for the night? Sounds plausible.
Something Great
This is arguably the loudest / most obvious song in terms of Larry-coding on One Direction's entire discography. And once again, the theme of forbidden love continues. Notable lyrics: "The script was written and I could not change a thing / l want to rip it-
all to shreds and start again / One day l'll come into your world and get it right / l'll say we're better off together here tonight "-----" | want you here with me / Like how I pictured it / So I don't have to keep imagining "----" You're all I want / So much it's hurting-
"Interpretation: It is pretty hard to not interpret this song as a Larry-coded one. For starters, the mention of a “script” (an outline of what they are allowed to say and do) that they are not able to change (no matter how much they want to) creates a clear allegory to their-
-relationship in the industry. As many already know, Modest Management has been known to micromanage the lives of the talent they represent. So much so, that past clients have even recently come out and revealed that they were unable to "come out" with their sexuality under-
-strict instructions by Modest. And that is not all. Even most members of One Direction who have since left the label have admitted to not being able to speak honestly in interviews because of how Modest handled their personal lives. They were all made to follow scripts. This,-
-because of their script/fate, although they want one another, they cannot. Also, it is important to point out that Harry is the most notable vocal singer on the track (and Louis does not sing until the very last line "you're all I want" - as if he is replying to the song).
Strong
Just as depicted in both Harry and Louis' matching tattoos, nautical imagery / theme is clearly present in the lyrics of this song. Notable lyrics: "My hands, your hands / Tied up like two ships" ----- "Drifting, weightless / Waves try to break it / l'd do anything to-
save it" ----- "Is that so wrong? / Is it so wrong / That you make me strong? / Think of how much / Love that's been wasted. " Interpretation: Pretty cut and dry. Just with all their other third album songs, the theme of "forbidden love" is prevalent in the lyrics. The-
mention of "waves" trying to break their "tied hands", hints at the fact that there must be something large than both of them (like Modest) trying to break apart their relationship. However, neither one of them will let their ship sink (let Modest get between them). They do not
think that it is wrong that they are in love (and make one another stronger because of it) but they are upset that their love is so wasted (they are not allowed to be open with it).
Little White Lies
This song makes more sense in the context of the interactions between Harry and Louis in real life (on stage and in interviews). Without that context (how they are always in their own little world and constantly staring into one another's eyes), the song makes
less sense. However, the general Larry-coded themes ("forbidden love" and yearning are still obvious and apparent in the lyrics) Notable lyrics: "Your hands touching me, they're touching me/And your eyes keep saying things/They say what we do/When it's only me and you/l can't
concentrate/That's all I'm thinking about/All I keep thinking about/Everything else just fades away/lf this room was burning/l wouldn't even notice/'Cause you've been taking up my mind/With your little white lies, little white lies"-----"| know you want it/l know you feel it too
/Let's stop pretending" Interpretation: The title and line "little white lies," connects to the line in Something Great about the script in which they have to follow. The script of Louis and Harry being forced to deny their relationship ("people genuinely think") is a little-
white lie. They have to lie about their relationship, even though they both just want to do nothing more than "stop pretending."
