With every sexual assault case in India comes further proof of the level of ineptitude of the societal systems.

3 days ago, UP ADG Prashant Kumar stated that based on the Forensic Report, the 19-year-old Dalit woman from #Hathras was not raped.

This conclusion was based on a report from examinations conducted days after the incident happened - which drastically reduces the chances of finding bodily fluid evidence - and is not totally admissible in court as proof that the victim wasn’t raped.

What other evidence has the police gathered to discredit the victim’s statement that she was raped? Every sexual assault case MUST be investigated to the letter before such unfounded claims are made. It is the police’s duty to effectively implement the law

How long do we have to continue dealing with dysfunctional systems? Dalit women deserve justice and we will continue to speak up until the systems are revamped, women’s rights are respected, and justice is served.
