Women have been beaten and jailed and killed for all the rights we have today. And while there are countless situations in which the weight placed upon women is literally unbearable, personal accountability is a fucking treasure, not a burden.
Beware the woman of safety who tries to avoid it and calls that feminism.
There is no freedom without accountability. Whether the accounting is just or unjust, well, that’s what we need to keep working on.

But the accountability itself... That is inextricably kinked, not just to our freedom but to our safety.
We are not safe when we are unable to take care of ourselves. And I am sick to death of women who are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves but don’t being the popular focus of feminism.
The learned incompetence of women is not cute. Just like the learned incompetence of men is not cute. It is also a resource distributed extremely inequitably. And the ‘desirability’ of it endangers us.
For the most ‘treasured’ women, it is their biggest vulnerability. How do they leave an abusive situation without having needed to learn whatever the man took care of? How do they maintain a sense of self in the absence of male approval? Being ‘taken care of’ is poison.
And we are in this weird place where we have women who are very free and independently successful still caught in this dynamic and it isn’t recognised because it doesn’t look quite like it. But it is there, even in the absence of a particular man.
And we can’t keep having these childish cries take up oxygen. There is too much work still to do. Too many women in danger, too many drowning and breaking for us to be buried under the weight of those women who can’t or won’t discriminate between accountability and sexism.
(And seriously, any men wanting to use this thread in any way, be absolutely cautioned. It is not an invitation for MRA pigs to critique women and you’ll be told to go fuck yourself in no uncertain terms if you attempt it.)
