Religious leaders have the cult-following that can challenge govt and force them to make meaningful reforms

Imagine Pastor Adeboye and Oyedepo leading a protest.Nigerians will troop out fearlessly

But the pastors here wine and dine with corrupt politicians.A pastor is even a VP
The American civil rights movement was led by Pastors like Martin Luther King Jnr and Muslim leaders like Malcolm X.

Same is true in most Arab countries. You will find a lot of their imams very much involved in Political activism for the good of the people.
Imagine Imams and clerics in Sokoto, Zamfara, Kano and other Northern states calling for a mass protest on a Friday after juma'a prayers.

People will troop out massively and no amount of police shooting can deter them. The Government will be forced to listen and make adjustments
Just for context: imagine the amount of opposition ONLY Shiites (a minority group) has given Buhari's Government, despite all the shootings.

And look at how much headache Boko Haram has given Nigeria. It all started from a little mosque in Maiduguri. Religion is a strong opium
If Redeem Church gets an order for protest from their Daddy GO, Living Faith and Deeper life gets a similar order, this whole country will shut down and no one can stop it.

These organizations (churches and mosques) have more hold on Nigerians than govt. They're a powerful force
But this is just wishful thinking, I don't think that can happen. Religious leaders are beneficiaries of these dysfunctional, broken system.

As long as roads remain bad, healthcare remains shit, security is nonexistent, these religious leaders will continue to thrive.
They still need to promise good health, security, prosperity to their followers and collect tithes, offerings, gifts with which they live lavishly.

Why organize a protest to fix the problem while the problem itself presents an opportunity to remain rich and powerful?
Anyway, as we move closer to 2023 election,Politicians will appear at altars/mosques of pastors and imams to collect endorsement and prayers

And when they get into office, they'd occasionally invite these pastors to govt house, offer gifts and concessions, wine, dine and go home
Anyway, SARS will continue to kill, Nigeria will continue to deteriorate and the only thing the gullible poor will get is a "divine assurance for protection."

The Pastor who has sold them out will "pray that harm shall not fall upon them." And the congregation will shout Amen
Nigeria will keep killing the righteous poor while th bige pastors/Imams move around with security, fly jets, have access to the best healthcare.

When the poor eventually dies before their time as usual, it shall be tagged "the will of the lord." Rinse. Repeat
Btw, don't forget to follow @avalondaily as usual. They offer in-depth analysis on contemporary issues in Nigeria. I stay up-to-date and mentally sharp by reading from them and listening to their podcast. Intelligent writers, intelligent hosts, intelligent guests. Thank me later
