I have mixed feelings about gay men taking over the Proud Boys hashtag.

On the one hand, fuck those white supremacist fashy assholes.

On the other ... cis gay men have a lot of issues of their own. Especially white cis gay men.
I'm a proud queer trans man. Full stop. I'm proud of having the courage to be who I am, to have married the man I love, and to be true to myself. I am everything the Proud Boys loathe.
But I'm not exactly welcome in large swaths of white cis gay male spaces. Trans men aren't fully embraced by the community. "No fats, no femmes" is like a fucking meme on Grindr. Gay men of colour are also looked down upon, to say nothing of disabled gay men.
The white cis gay male ideal, the one that's celebrated in so many parts of gay media, is abled, either wicked muscular or very lithe, conventionally handsome, and cornfed white. There's little representation of anything or anyone else.
Maybe that's my ambivalence -- I found multiple "white pride" gay porn accounts bitching about the "wrong fags" being visible, about trans men, bi men, ugly men, men of colour, fat men, older men.

That's not far off from the Proud Boys. It's just dick sucking white supremacy.
So maybe white cis gay men need to do some work before splashing some rainbow flags and abs on that hashtag as if that combats white supremacy, because white supremacy is in the gay community.

Until that's reckoned with, this isn't radical. It's just white cis male privilege.
Lift up the queer community -- the WHOLE community.

Protect trans men and women, protect non-binary folx, protect queer folx out here, fighting oppression at our intersections.

That's what we need. And white cis gay men need to do more on that front. Pronto.
As long as white, abled, young, fit, cis bodies define "gay men," the privilege of heteronormative society is replicated in the queer community.

We need to tear that shit down, not enshrine it. We need to lift up the margins, not the centre. Otherwise, there's nothing radical.
