LE COQ SPORTIF = D
Some very tired releases, very similar dull template to last year with the low hanging panel across the chest
Appear to be shifting emphasis towards Rugby
1 redeeming shirt is the Atlético Mineiro anniversary which is one of the best released this year

NEW BALANCE = C-
Tough summer for New Balance; lost 2 of their big clubs in Liverpool and Celtic.
They continue to be a very Jekyll and Hyde manufacturer; what they do well they do very well, what they do badly they do very badly. This season is no different

JOMA = C
Last year I had Joma at the bottom of the pile, and few disagreed. But Joma have really progressed from their turgid 2019/20 range with some genuinely nice pieces.
They do drop the occasional clanger, but improvement is all I'm after and that has definitely been made

HUMMEL = C+
This review has very little to do design. This is to do with sublimated badges, sublimated sponsors, glued on badges.
From a design perspective, what Hummel have produced is top tier but enough to ignore the short comings in shirt quality? Not for me.

ADIDAS = C+
'Pretty underwhelmed' would be my short review.
When they've got teams like Real Madrid, Man United, Bayern in their stable, you expect so much more than what was delivered.
Some beautiful shirts (usually international) but largely forgettable crop on the whole

ERREA = B-
Italian releases - brilliant. I'm not sure Errea have released a bad Pescara/Parma shirt have they?
English releases - mixed. Norwich; great range but Port Vale shirt?! Blimey. Future classic? I'm not sure!

KAPPA = B-
Not as imperious as previous seasons. On the whole, Kappa continue to test the realms of possibility with abstract designs, but some have missed the mark.
Furthermore, Kappa are forcing the customer to choose between a low quality replica or a wet suit

KELME = B
Remember paw prints all over Real Madrid shirts in the mid 1990s? Kelme are back (although they never really went away). But you've only just taken notice when that Watford home smacked you in the face
But they're much more than that. Some great, subtle releases too

JAKO = B
Another manufacturer with a relatively small stable, but with some really nice, clean releases. Not afraid to try a bold design (see WĂŒrzburger Kickers), but nothing that really blows your socks off
Would like to see more of the same with a little bit more juice.

MACRON = B+
Macron were at the top of last season's grading, but I feel they've taken a backwards step with some sub-par releases. That said, some of the designs are absolutely top drawer.
Unfortunate dip in quality with the emergence of some felt badges affects their grading

PUMA = B+
They're emerging as one of the most intriguing manufacturers. Some daring & imaginative shirts.
That said, BVB releases represent somewhat of a cornerstone & this year they're very weak. The Italian renaissance shirt (a hit on these shores) was much maligned in Italy

UMBRO = A-
Umbro are just good at designing football shirts. Very good at it, in fact. They have the perfect mix of nostalgia (Luton away) with contemporary designs (Gremio)
Occasional use of plastic glued-on badges an unfortunate blemish

CHARLY = A-
As always, the market within which Charly operate (Central America) it needs to be appreciated - this means lots of sponsors.
That aside, these designs are top, top drawer. Charly do push the boundaries and, usually, absolutely nail it

NIKE = A
This might upset the shirt cognicenti but Nike are this season's elite designers in my opinion. They take risks but they often pay off. On top of that, top quality production (stitched badges, durable wear etc.) across the board
Top of my manufacturer tree for 20/21
