THREAD: How do you pick a player from such an impressive performance and result to focus on. Anyway I have and gone for Ian Poveda. #LUFC
He came on in the second half, replacing Alioski which allowed Costa to play on the left and provide more of an attacking option. Poveda played on the right and caused Mendy a lot of problems.
On the ball, Ian is technically brilliant and you can see why he's been at some of the clubs he has been at. He was positive on the ball and looked to get at City, completing 4/4 successful dribbles.
He helped Leeds transition from defence to attack something they struggled to do in the first half by coming deep to show for the ball. When he did receive the ball, he turned and drove Leeds up the pitch, as the example below shows.
He came close to getting assist after putting in a low cross to the near post but Bamford couldn't quite get his foot around the ball and steer it on target. This cross came after beating two city players.
Not only did Poveda cause Man City problems going forward but also did his defensive work. He pressed really well and showed good energy. The example below shows he nicking the ball off De Bruyne and then receiving the pass in space from Kalvin and dribbling past Silva.
Poveda is an excellent ball carrier and even in the short space of time at Leeds his decision making is improving each game. He played a great pass (as seen below) to Bamford, who didn't quite get past his man.
He played yesterdays game like a man on a mission. He didn't get many chances at City, which from a Leeds point of view was good as it allowed us to sign him. Ian is a more than capable option off the bench and will only get better.
Got up early to do this thread as my next day off work isn't until Saturday so apologies if its a bit rushed. Couldn't not do a thread after how good yesterdays performance was! #MOT
