1 Month into E-learning, here is my report.

Absences are way down from the Spring when our idiot governor told kids their grades couldn't go down.

Unfortunately, 2/3 of the class refuses to turn their cameras on or participate in class. As far as I know, they log in and go afk.
The quality of the work from kids is miserably low.

It's no longer an achievement gap.
It's an achievement canyon.
Many many kids are being left behind by e-learning. Both teachers and kids are burnt out already. It feels like we've been doing this for six months and it's barely October.
I have a teacher on my team who routinely cries in our weekly meeting, saying she should have quit to homeschool her daughter. She has to bring her to daycare because the schools won't run classes.
I'm doing the best to convert my curriculum to online only but there's only so much you can do on Zoom.
On the parent end of things, my 6y/o says he is sad because he wanted to make new friends in Kindergarten. His brother does his best to help out but we're just barely able to keep the little one entertained between two parents and an older brother. He's been a trooper but...
...you can tell he's getting increasingly lonely. We're all feeling isolated and on edge.
I know we should feel blessed because no one has lost their job yet, but it's coming. I suspect widespread RIFs in the Spring as the state runs out of cash.
I fear that there are going to be many more self-harm incidents among kids as we transition into crappier weather and the prospect of school openings is dashed.
