Pakistan Airforce had C130 in service in 1983, don't know if it was on lease or had been gifted by the US.
I can’t say with certainty but do believe C130 was in service with PAF in 1983, I loaded 7.5T of cargo on one of them at Jeddah Haj Terminal. In 52 Deg C while PAF personnel lolled inside in shade. My Haj ops Manager noticed me loading the cargo by myself, rushed to the bay.
When he noticed PAF personnel lolling inside the Aircraft he gave them an earful for not assisting in loading the cargo. Next was the PIA manager at the Terminus who got a dressing down.
This was not the end, a few day later on a PIA flt, the manager insisted that Water be loaded in the bull hold of the Airbus Aircraft without following the required protocol for handling liquid on a passenger flight. I cud not refuse the instruction of the manager of PIA.
I put the weight & balance documents in front of the manager & asked him to sign them, since the Aircraft had been loaded as per his instructions, he shud take responsibility for it. That made him sweat & he tried to evade signing the documents, my Haj ops Manager made it clear
To the PIA manager if the flt takes off it will have his signatures on the documents or the water will be offloaded & then I will sign the document. Flt safety can’t be compromised at any cost.
Another experience was loading a PIA B707F after the empty Aircraft had parked at the Bay, refrigerated trucks wud bring Lambs sacrificed at Mecca & we wud load on to pallets & in to the Aircraft We finish this exercise in about 2Hrs 30minutes in 50Deg C & more temp.
If by mistake we touched the pallet bare handed the skin wud burn cotton gloves had to be used as protection. We trained to operate contact parking equipment. Popularly called Aero Bridge.
This was the first experience of working with many different nationalities. At one end were the South Koreans who wud not take any break & wud work very hard one had to match them to keep them motivated at the other end V had workers from Pakistan who needed to be goaded to work
Fillipinos, thais, Srilankans, Egyptians, Yemenis were easier to handle. Lebanese sharp & always looking to avoid hard work.
1150 flights mostly wide bodied jets in 45days is quite an ask. Most of these were Iran Air.
Lost 15Kgs & wore 3 pairs of shoes in these 45days. 12hrs on 12 hrs off when shift change it meant 24hrs of working non stop.
