This is... literally all wrong. As someone who has kept axolotls and has a LOT of experience with exotic pet care, let me actually break this down for you: https://twitter.com/mayawastakenn/status/1312471589447847936
1) You're right in saying that they aren't commonly pink in the wild, but they do come in many different colors in the wild. In captivity, there are four main categories: wild, melanistic, leucistic, and albino, and some in-between
These ALL occur naturally in the wild
>>
2) It may be safest to house an axolotl alone, especially if you don't have a big enough tank for more than one, but they can ABSOLUTELY be housed together. Especially adults, but also babies if they're together from birth
>>
That being said, from dogs to lizards to fish, housing ANY animal with another of same or different species is always a risk. You'll need to keep an eye on them to make sure they aren't harassing each other
Axolotls will frequently - accidentally - bite each other's limbs off >>
if kept together, happened with mine. They're blind as shit and whoops, leggy gone. Axolotls can and do grow limbs back, though, and to say they just CAN'T be housed together just goes to show the ignorance that OP has in this thread
>>
3) No, you won't be able to take your axolotl out of its tank and play with it, that's common sense. But if you wash your hands with warm water, no soap, you can DEFINITELY play with them AND train them in their tanks! I trained mine to sit on my hand and they loved lounging!
>>
4) Axolotls are fucking juggernauts. They're tougher than most commonly kept fish, and require WAY less maintenance than tropical fish tanks
First of all, you want a bare-bottom tank for your axolotls, while fish require substrate. Bare-bottom makes cleaning WAY easier
>>
Secondly, most tropical schooling fish will literally drop dead at the slightest change in water parameters, making tropical tanks really overwhelming for beginners. Axolotls don't give a FUCK, dude, they'll take whatever they can get. They're tough as shit
>>
As for filtration, meh, that's true. Axolotls are filthy bastards, they shit more and they take big-ass shits, too, with tons of ammonia. I had my axolotls in a 40gal breeder tank, with an AquaClear 75 filter, so much bigger than necessary, and siphoned bottom once a week
>>
Literally not that much maintenance at all. My axolotl tank was the easiest of 7 freshwater tanks I was managing at home, AND was easier than all the tanks I was managing at work, too

They're tough as shit, low maintenance, lovable, with their own personalities
>>
You CAN interact with and socialize them, and I'm sick of people saying you can't do that with aquarium animals like fish and amphibians, it's doing the creatures an injustice to their level of intelligence and livelihood to not bond with them and stimulate their minds!
>>
So seriously, OP, do your research. A lot of your information is wrong and it's your responsibility to know what you're talking about when you make a thread like this. Don't do these beautiful creatures an injustice with your misinformation
