"If gender is a social construct, then why do trans people conform to gender stereotypes? They're upholding what they're fighting against."

First of all, gender ROLES are a social construct, not gender itself. And most trans people HAVE to conform to the binary. 1/
In many places, in order to get on hormones, you must present as a man/woman in order for your doctors to take you seriously. As socially constructed as the roles are, in order to be perceived as the gender you are, you have to perform it. 2/
And for some, it gives them gender euphoria. For example, I present as a masculine as possible. And whenever I get called "sir," it makes me feel on top of the world. 3/
Should we get rid of gender roles? Absolutely. But for now, we have to play the game. And that means conforming to the binary. 4/
Of course, there are GNC trans people who don't give a fuck about gender roles, and they're as valid as those who present as their gender. Never forget that! (End thread.)
