Chelsea vs Crystal Palace
Tactical Impressions
Frank Lampard got his defensive line up correct. Azpilicueta was key to keeping Zaha quiet and on the other side, Chilwell nullified Andros Townsend, Two of palace’s biggest threats. Thiago Silva and Zouma were impressive.

One aspect our pivot I was very happy with was our tactical fouling. This was not seen much last season. Eze and Ayew in particular never got into the game due to this. Jorginho’s passing range was impressive last night along with Kante clearing out threats and winning key duels
Kai Havertz was the heart of the Chelsea attack. His off the ball work was impressive, always got into the right areas and deserved a goal/assist today. It’s clear Frank wants to build his team around Kai. A license to roam and play with freedom got the best out of Kai yesterday
Timo did nothing wrong today but looked a bit uncomfortable playing as a winger. Timo’s support role enabled Chilwell to create those underlaps and make those late runs into the box which resulted in the first goal. In time we’ll see Timo play infront of Kai, his best position.
Hudson Odoi had a good game. He grew into the game especially in the second half creating one big chance for Tammy who almost converted it in. All he needs is more time and confidence. Will be interesting to see how Frank uses him with Reece James in the coming weeks.
