I attended the @EFCL Ribbon Cutting event to unveil this gorgeous outdoor plaza at Hawrelak Park in #yeg
A lovely recreation infrastructure to for @EFCL 100th anniversary & the impact of the #yegCl community league system in the city 1/
This was a moment of deep celebration and reflection for me. I'm technically new to this #yegcl movement, just joined @RioTerraceCL in 2016 and then EFCL board last year. 1st board meeting talked about the construction of this plaza! 2/
❤ this map showing the #yeg the different community leagues and when they were founded. Right after the ceremonies, guests to the park started pointing, locating their neighborhood and league. 🤗 3/
Here's a close up of the District D/ West Edmonton community leagues. Proud to represent the largest district. So many are founded after 2000s! All evolving with volunteers pouring labor of love to make their #yeg neighborhood better! 4/
This is certainly the goal of community leagues and in the next 100 years there so much potential in ensuring true inclusiveness. Most #yegCl community leagues have to start imagining programs and infrastructure for a few demographics in the city. 5/
- Newcomers to #yeg in newly developed areas ought to be connected to a #yegCL ASAP
- 100% accessibility from buildings, programs, communications to neighbors
- activities for people of all family types and ages
- engaging apartment dwellers in areas w/ majority house owners
6/
I hope that this plaza, with its artistic and historical elements and its utility as a structure in a beautiful city park, that this sparks greater interest, engagement and participation in #volunteer activities, civic engagement, pride and love of living in #yeg
