Prominent right-libertarians flirting with fascism; a thread
In 1927, Ludwig von Mises articulates that "...Fascism and similar movements...are full of the best intentions and...their intervention has for the moment saved European civilization. The merit that Fascism has thereby won for itself will live on eternally in history."
During an interview with the Chilean press in 1981, Friedrich Hayek describes dictatorial power as a potential necessary transition to liberalism:
Gary North, administer of the Ron Paul Curriculum, a homeschooling program, also infamous for (yes really) his positions of stoning gays to death and a strong Christian state, passionately wrote for Reason in 1976 an article about WWII revisionism, specifically Holocaust denial.
Hans Hermann-Hoppe, close friend of Rothbard and famous for his fascistic "physical removal" position, once sat on a panel with white nationalist Richard Spencer in 2010 (see below)
Hoppe also thought it was a good idea to provide the foreword for this book, in which the author ends with contending that libertarianism and the alt-right are two movements worth joining hands.
WWII revisionist and Holocaust denier Harry Elmer Barnes was not only eulogized by Murray Rothbard, but also has had much of his work published in right-libertarian magazines, and also by the Cato Institute. In this very book, Barnes says, "the alleged extermination in gas ovens"
James J. Martin is another revisionist , Holocaust denier and individualist right-libertarian anarchist, who was interviewed by Reason for their 1976 revisionism issue. His work has been cited by modern right-libertarian historians, namely Jeff Riggenbach.
Martin's book, Men Against the State, was published by the Mises Institute in 2009.
Many excerpts from the Rampart Journal, a libertarian publication started by the Kochs in the 70s, have made their way into the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Holocaust denial timeline.
And of course, most recently, current president of the Mises Institute, Jeff Deist, closed his 2017 speech at Mises University with an obvious dog whistle, saying "blood and soil and God and nation still matter to people. Libertarians ignore this at the risk of irrelevance."
