Well I never thought I would write on this in detail. But am drunk now. Have finished half a bottle of Scotch.

So, it's the best time to write stuff 😆😆😆
It's going to be a long thread which I hope you will not read.

I don't even think anyone would be interested to read! https://twitter.com/FootballTheory_/status/1312417621833256961
don't know if anyone is interested. But here goes, I have always been passionate about football. However was mostly interested in football tactics. I used to write stuff about football in FB, mostly in @armbandmedia FB page. I even had a page on Belgium league.
I came to know about football analytics after reading some @StatsBomb articles about 2 years back.
Then I read a book, "The Numbers Game" by @DavidSally6 & @soccerquant
Then it was like wow! this is a new way of looking at football!
This is a way I have never seen before!
There were 2 ways for me now. I could have considered all that xG and radars as BS. I decided to give the new ideas a try. I wanted to learn this new stuff. I started following people in Twitter, started reading up. I was reading anything I found. There are lots of great stuff
I read, made some stuff, changed them. Made lots of errors. I was not confident to put them even in twitter or FB. BTW, I read another book - The Football Hackers by @chbiermann. It was almost a lightbulb flickering on. If you want to start in football analytics, read that book.
Anyway, I kept learning and started doing some stuff that I put in twitter. Some people in football analytics twitter helped me a lot - @StatifiedF , @MarkTaylor0 , @Blades_analytic, @babuyagu , @ThatGarateyjc @Worville @Gegenpressing91 etc for their help during those early days.
There is another person who has helped me a lot. I would not be revealing his name but he has a very big role in my improvement. He has been there to help me with data, with improvement suggestions. You know who you are. Thanks for all the help.
I have since kept reading, kept learning and kept creating new stuff. Recently learnt cool Viz style from @Gegenpressing91 tutorial. Learnt PV from @MishraAbhiA
My best ability for me is my ability to continuously learn and improve. I am just trying that.
Anyway, few months ago I suddenly got contacted by an Asian club to join them part time. It was an amazing moment. Shocking too. Anyway, I am trying to help them with data analytics since. It has been an extremely educational experience. Let's see what that adventure brings.
I am now 40+. I have a full time job (am a doctor who works in pharma industry) and have a family including a 5 year old Son. I have to try to find some time out to create the things. It's mostly late night efforts. It takes a lot of my free time but am happy when I work on them.
Football and football analytics is my stress buster. They keep me sane in a chaotic world. I am thankful to all of you who has helped me, who continue to help me. I try to learn from all of you and I hope you get to see some interesting stuff from me.
My suggestions to everyone-
Try stuff, put stuff in the open. Tag people. Don't get discouraged if the people you tag don't comment. I tag a lot of people still who does not comment or give feedback.
Read, follow people from whom you think you can learn something.
Don't bother with how many followers you have.
Try to keep an open mind. When someone criticises you, don't get defensive, try to take the suggestions. I usually try to tag them more as if someone is taking time to read and provide comments, they are to be treasured.
So, there was my big thread on myself. It feels so narcissistic! Wrote a fucking long thread talking about myself.
Anyway I don't know what am babbling anyway. I am off to drink a bit more and sleep.
Tomorrow morning will see what mess am creating here.
Good night.
