hello!
today i wanted to try to do a thread with some record recommendations i wanted to give.
now these are not any unknown albums but theyre albums that I've not seen a lot of people talk about that i really enjoy.
might make it a series if you enjoy it
rt for more exposure pls
#1 The Madcap Laughs by Syd Barrett
genre: psychedelic folk
this is the debut album from founding pink floyd member syd barrett. after his departure from the legendary band, syd decided to take a break from the music scene, only to bounce back with this amazing classic
the record is a major artistic switch from his previous psychedelic rock he made with the band, but keeping his amazing and captivating songwriting and mad vocals he was known for during his stay in pink floyd. the instrumentals on here are pretty lofi and barbones which help put
the spotlight on his songwriting, on which he delivers on truly. the record unfortunately does have its downfalls like a few mixing issues and a few passages that are just there, but those can be overlooked and when the dust settles this is an undeniable classic
#2 Agaetis Byrjun by Sigur Rós
genre: post rock, ambient

this is sigur rós second album following their debut von, and it shows a switch from the dark and eerie aspects of that album into calming, angelic ambient post rock
the album is a showcase of lucious instrumentals that mix with jonsi's amazing vocals over this whole album. he truly has one of the best ranges ever and hes just overall quite probably my favourite vocalist of all time. his voice shines like a sweet angel on every song here
overall this album is one of the not-so-hidden gems of ambiental music and post rock and while other bands in this field have overtaken sigur rós in terms of popularity (swans, slint) they'll still hold a special place in my heart as the band that introduced me to this genre
#3 Let The Sun Talk by MAVI
genre: hip-hop/rap

let the sun talk is the debut project from earl sweatshirt affiliate MAVI who is a rapper that has become one of my favourite rappers since listening to this album. he manages to carve out his own place and sound in this very over-
saturated field of conscious and modern lyrical rap. from his odd instrumentals, to his amazing flow and harsh delivery which just grabs you into his music and adds a lot of swagger to his music. he makes sure every single rhyme he spits sticks to you.
and i dont know what it is about this album but it just exudes so much charisma and character from the way mavi raps on the opener, self love, daylight savings, etc.
overall mavi manages to be one of the most interesting rappers in the game and someone you should keep an eye on
please let me know what you think of this thread and if i should continue this as a mini series. it would mean a lot to me if you could check these albums out and let me know how you feel about them.
thank you and goodbye
