Once upon a time, men and women were raised in small communities.
Those communities, by shared history and purpose, held common cultural traditions known to all.
Children were shepherded to adulthood by elders through coming of age rituals.
Today, there is no such thing.

A young boy in America today has nobody to rely on for guidance into manhood, other than his father.
And for many, fathers don’t exist or aren’t worth anything.
So it’s not a wonder that men try to find purpose on their own, and do it badly.

Why have levels of depression risen even though we live in the most abundant society in history?
Why are young men falling into extremism on both sides of the political aisle?
Why do boys think that drinking and hookup culture is manly?
They are lost.

I don’t know a thing about a thing, but I was once a lost boy, and I’ve seen my fair share of lost boys wander into the military.
I will share what I know, which isn’t much.
But it may save a few wandering boys.
